Former Tandem Science Teacher Helping Raise Dark Skies Awareness
Christine Hirsh-Putnam taught Middle School Science at Tandem from 1999 until her retirement in 2020. She spearheaded so many stewardship efforts at Tandem and started Tandem Earth. Last week, she was featured in a C'ville Weekly article about light pollution and her efforts through Dark Skies Piedmont, a group she started two years ago to 'raise public awareness and to urge local governments, especially the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, to make light pollution a priority.' Check out the full C'ville Weekly article here. Christine is frequently showcased in the area as "a retired teacher and super citizen” who focuses on helping the community and those in it to develop more sustainable and earth-friendly habits. Thanks to Christine for continuing to inspire stewardship in the greater community after leading Tandem's efforts for so many years.
